Sensitivity analysis of tree scheduling on two machines with communication delays

چکیده
This paper presents a sensitivity analysis for the problem of scheduling UET trees with communication delays on two identical processors, to minimize the makepan. Indeed, actual communication delays may not be precisely known before the execution. The paper compares the optimal makespans with and without communication delays. This is used to get sensitivity bounds for algorithms optimal in the UECT case, that is when execution and communication times are fixed to one. Processor ordered schedules are introduced: all communications are oriented from one processor to the other. We show that these schedules are dominant for unit delays, for zero delays, but not for less than or equal to one delays. We establish that an algorithm, optimal in the UECT case and building processor ordered schedules, admits an absolute sensitivity bound equal to the difference between the maximum and the minimum communication delays: w w* ≤ c c .

A Simple Approximation Algorithm for Scheduling Forests with Unit Processing Times and Zero-One Communication Delays
In the last few years, scheduling jobs due to communication delays has received a great deal of attention. We consider the problem of scheduling forests due to unit processing times and zero-one communication delays and focus on the approximation algorithm of Hanen and Munier and on the algorithm of Guinand, Rapine and Trystram. These algorithms and their analysis are quite complex. In contrast...
متن کاملScheduling Tasks with Communication Delays on Parallel Processors
Let Jn={v1,...,vn} be a set of n jobs to be executed and E a set of precedence constraints on Jn. Assume that we have available a set Mk={m1,...,mk} of k identical machines that are to execute the jobs in Jn such that the time needed by any machine to execute each job in Jn is one unit. Our main result in this paper is to give an O(n log2(n)) algorithm to find an optimal scheduling with communi...
متن کاملElectromagnetism-like algorithm for fuzzy flow shop batch processing machines scheduling to minimize total weighted earliness and tardiness
In this paper, we study a flow shop batch processing machines scheduling problem. The fuzzy due dates are considered to make the problem more close to the reality. The objective function is taken as the weighted sum of fuzzy earliness and fuzzy tardiness. In order to tackle the given problem, we propose a hybrid electromagnetism-like (EM) algorithm, in which the EM is hybridized with a diversi...
متن کاملScheduling Trees with Communication Delays
Several variants of scheduling task graphs with interprocessor communication delays have been shown to be NP-complete. This paper completely characterizes the complexity of this problem under the restriction that the task graphs are trees and that each task has unit execution time. It is shown that the problem remains NP-complete for binary trees with uniform communication delays. The same hold...
متن کاملAppling Metaheuristic Algorithms on a Two Stage Hybrid Flowshop Scheduling Problem with Serial Batching (RESEARCH NOTE)
In this paper the problem of serial batch scheduling in a two-stage hybrid flow shop environment with minimizing Makesapn is investigated. In serial batching it is assumed that jobs in a batch are processed serially, and their completion time is defined to be equal to the finishing time of the last job in the batch. The analysis and implementation of the prohibited transference of jobs among th...
